Marketing leadership for technical products begins with a clear commercial choice.

The job is to translate a real capability into a specific reason a market can understand, then give delivery teams enough structure to act on it.

The business problem

Technical teams can describe what a product does long before a buyer can explain why it matters. A marketing leader has to hold both truths: preserve the product’s limits and make the commercial conversation precise enough for Sales, campaigns and content to use.

I use this approach to give a product, its audience and the teams carrying the message a shared commercial direction.

Decision framework

Capability → commercial meaning → operating proof

  1. 1. Name the capabilityWhat can the product credibly do today, and what remains a pilot, assumption or future possibility?
  2. 2. Choose the commercial questionWhich user, department or use case makes the capability worth discussing?
  3. 3. Define the trust conditionsWhat does a buyer need to inspect, control or verify before the proposition is credible?
  4. 4. Carry it into deliveryTranslate the choice into campaign, web, Sales-enablement and measurement work.

Scope

A practical approach, grounded in hands-on leadership.

I have not published budgets, P&L ownership, team size, revenue, pipeline or adoption data; the focus here is how I make a technical product easier to choose and carry into delivery.

Work evidence

A bounded enterprise AI example.

At Scabera, the documented remit is positioning and go-to-market priorities for an enterprise AI platform in pilot, around private knowledge access, citation-backed outputs and data sovereignty.

Questions

Marketing leadership for technical products.

Is this product marketing or go-to-market leadership?

It spans both. The framing begins with market meaning, then continues into the priorities and operating work that make the position usable.

How do you make a product story usable?

I carry the same audience, capability and trust conditions into the website, campaigns and Sales materials so the story survives the handoff.

How does this relate to Sales enablement?

Sales enablement is one place where a positioning decision needs to survive contact with real conversations. It should carry the same capability, audience and trust conditions.

Does this page describe a specific launch?

No. It describes a repeatable approach. See Work for documented employment context.
